View Full Version : Black Rapid's R-Strap with a bag?

I was considering getting the r-strap, but everything I've read or seen gives the impression that this is a strap to use without having a bag or backpack on you.
I normally sling my bag over my shoulder in exactly the same way the r-strap is supposed to go.
So to somebody who owns the r-strap, is it possible to use with a bag/backpack?

hmmmm, I use a timbuk2 bag as my camera bag and can use both (I made my own variant of the R-strap)
as long as the R-strap is on the 'bottom'/put on first and is longer than the bag strap (so there's no overlap). Also my homemade R-strap has a fatter strap (1.5 inch) compared to 1 inch, so I would imagine the R-strap would fit nicer.
I'm not sure if it'd work as well on a backpack
if you're interested I could take a picture...only if you say please :)

Pllleeeeeaaaase?!
Doesn't your bag strap keep the camera strap from coming up, so you can't lift it to your eye?

Yep, I've had my R-Strap for 4 or 5 months and it works perfectly. I just put my bag on first, then the R-strap on the other shoulder.
I now wonder if it works with backpacks though...

I have a Crumpler 7MDH and an R-Strap. At first I was wearing the 2 of them criss-crossed - one over each shoulder like a gunslinger :)
Didn't like that much, and got a lot of weird looks. Now I just put the bag on first and the R-strap on over the top, same shoulder. All good.
Don't think it'd be too comfortable with a backpack, because of the backpack strap on the shoulder of the side the camera is on - the R-strap would be too high going over the top of that. Maybe if you put the R-strap on first, then the backpack... ? Not sure, would have to test.

I'm wanting to find a 2 lens caddy bag (like the boda, but cheap!) to do the gunslinger deal....
