The charger for the Np-E3 batteries is really big so I wondered if there exist any third party travel chargers for these batteries that are smaller and lighter than the original charger?
EDIT: Just found this: http://www.eastgear.com/shop/product_info.php?products_id=615 anybody have experience with this one or the company?

I found them here: http://www.naturescapes.net/store/product.php?productid=185
The price was a bit scary. But it sure is a lot more travel friendly than the Canon original.

Definately. And now I also found it at a German shop http://www.enjoyyourcamera.com/product_info.php?language=en&products_id=356&XTCsid=53c94da41b33d47f80e65369932704e2
I will definately get one of these before going to Africa.

I went through this search about a year ago, and it was hopeless. I ultimately got a used Canon charger via the FM B&S forum.
I would have gotten the Eastgear, but I don't think it was out then.
What I hear about the Canon charger is that it is big to hold the heatsink that is required for the 'reconditioning' cycle, and IIRC the Eastgear model doesn't have that option. If you are not going to need to recondition the battery while you are away the Eastgear should be a fine choice.
Now what I would like is a car charger - but that looks like a more difficult challenge - I don't think we will see one of them soon.
Plus, there is a pretty good chance that the NP-E3 will be replaced in the next generation of the 1 series, so now may be the time to strike on the Eastgear - if Canon obsoletes the battery, the demand will drop off soon, and the Eastgear charger will disappear from the market.
Have Fun,
