Hi,

I was wondering if anyone who had used the Domke inserts would know which insert would be good for a Canon Rebel Xti with a Tamron 17-50mm lens? And preferably room to add another lens later on.

I was going to get a camera bag but realised I don't really need one and would prefer to use a normal bag as I have other things to carry and don't want to carry two bags.

Are the inserts enough protection for the camera or is there anything else I would need to look at? I'll be using them in a normal messenger style bag. I don't want to damage the camera though so if the camera bag will be better then I guess I'll just have to go with it.

Thanks!

That's not a terribly long lens; the 720-210 should accomodate camera and lens; the 720-211 would take it with a grip, but if you're using a grip it'd need to be a fairly big messenger bag. Most of the standard inserts are sized for just a lens or lenses; if I've got 2 shortish lenses I stack them in mine, with the top one mounted on the camera. If you want just one lens per, take a look at the "short" inserts 720-216, -226 and -246 (1, 2 and 4 compartments) or the 1-compartment mini, 720-200.

Hi,

Thanks for then info. Which insert would work well for the Rebel XTI with the Tamron lens mounted and a Sigma 10-22mm lens? I'm ordering the inserts with the camera and the lens so I don't have a clue how big they are. Which insert do you use for the 2 lenses stacked with the camera?

I don't have a grip or any other accessory so its just the camera and a lens and sometimes 2 lenses.

Thanks

The standard insert compartments just fit a 24-70 or 70-200 2.8 IS with hood. The hoods are just under 4.5" diameter. I use a 3-compartment with 20D/70-200, 15-30 Sigma and 5D/24-70 in my F-802 Reporter's Satchel. I'll stack any 2 (3, including the 1.4x TC) of the following if I don't have the above mix: 35 f/2, 50 f/1.8, 85 f/1.8, 2xTC, Kenko tubes in a compartment.
