View Full Version : Need A Tripod...

I'm picking up my Bigma tomorrow and, as a result, I suspect I'll need to upgrade my tripod. I don't use one very often, but the fine piece of craftsmanship that is the Quantaray tripod I currently own is, I think, probably not up to the task.
I'm looking for something that's solid, but that won't break the bank.
Suggestions?

Try the 055 range, I picked one up on ebay. it is very sturdy and great piece of kit. I only had a jessops tp323 before and it knocks spots off that.
I upgraded cos I got the sigma 100-300 F4 and a TC, combinded weight is over 2.3kg.
Try ebay and see if you can get a bargain as they ussually throw in a head as well

Check out Giottos... Really some decent stuff at prices that won't break the bank. A Gitzo Explorer is very nice also.
I went CF happy and replaced all my old, trashy gear and it's night-and-day.

I have the 3011BN (055DB) and its rated to hold 5kgs which should be plenty for the Bigma combo.
Its not also too heavy for an alumninium pod - at 3.7lbs , but yes, you will find me ranting in another thread about CF tripod options to reduce weight :)
