UV/Skylight Filter

I am still new at this. What is the difference between a UV filter and a Skylight filter. Which one is better more as a lens protector then anything else?

The UV filter is clear, and blocks only "invisible" ultraviolet light. A skylight (or haze) filter has a slightly pinkish color, and reduces some of the blueness in a scene -- warming it slightly. The UV would be the better choice for a lens protector.
